video shoot for ‘You Want Some?’

Those of you in and around Sheffield, come and be in my video!

The Brothers Arms, Wells Rd, Heeley, Sheffield. 10am-12 midday Sat 23rd Feb 2019

For this video shoot I’m after a mob –  an angry mob, a bemused mob, a passive mob, a confused mob. No acting skills required, but in your minds you should each ‘channel’ the following:

A no-rules bun-fight with sharp chunks of old rye

Piles of oiled walruses pouring through an impossibly narrow gap

Grasping chancers making a grab for land and power

a laughing industrialist

Two bald men fighting over a comb

a 52/48 split in your bum crack

Feel free to bring along your own prop that best describes Brexit to you.

Here are the song lyrics:

You Want Some?

Want some? You want some? Everything must go! Despite a Boaty Mc vote race, the overlords still sit in place. The Great British cake-off , the ‘fuck your own face off’. Everything must go. The new rules are a cinch, ignore the small print, do not flinch. They really just want zero contact, here’s a brand new zero contract. Everything must go. Welcome to the Great British bring and buy sale! I hear Europe wants to ban trumpets, Matt. I hear they’re straightening the good old British banana. You can’t even keep a lion these days. Political correctness gone mad, I call it. Ah, zee famous English sense of humour. Under EU directive 777, there shall no more trumpets on British records. Crumbs from a rich man’s table, a little bit of Britain, while you’re able. Not much left, its dirt and fluff, come on down, get the good stuff. Everything must go.

next Sieben gigs

Just had lovely gigs in Croydon and London. Two quite different nights, for sure. Croydon was lovely and rowdy, one where you fight for attention. London was hushed and reverent. I’m up for both, but the second of these is far more rewarding in terms of being able to play soft, hang on a note, and play the dynamics of the room. However, having ‘Crumbs’ up my sleeve certainly helps with the former: The more up-front, up-tempo and beats-based nature of the material lends itself to being ‘banged out’ to an enthusiastic crowd that aren’t either still, or afraid to let themselves be heard. Either way, its people who come and support live music, and they are the lifeblood of any scene, for any artist. More often these days artists are surviving from the merch they drag along with them. Having an audience is what drives us, and what we survive from, as independent artists.

Next up, I have two concerts at opposite sides of Germany, Freiburg and Zwickau, both in November. And both sure to be brilliant nights. After 1,600 or so concerts I’m as enthusiastic as I ever was, about playing live. But without the nerves 😉 Find details of both these shows in my concerts page.

My last gig of 2018 is a secret little affair, that is just word of mouth, and for those of you on my mailing list. I’ll play two sets, a set of my older material, and a set of Crumbs, in the beautiful Dorothy Pax bar, down at Victoria Quays, the canalside basin in the centre of Sheffield. Sat 22nd Dec. Limited to 50 tickets only. £10. Tickets from my shop. I’ll be handing out seasonal gifts, snacks and some music for all of you. Will be an intimate and lovely night, and a perfect way for me to finish my musical year.

Again, thanks to all of you who come along to the live shows, and hope to see you all again. Keep music live, go see local bands, find some new music. Find venues and promoters where you like what they’re doing, go along, share their posts, spread their word. There’s nothing wrong with open mic nights or covers bands, but that might be all you’re left with if the live scene, and independent artists, promoters and venues aren’t supported 🙂

gigs and secret-sieben-santa

Oof, have just about recovered from writing, recording, releasing and promoting CRUMBS. Thanks to all who’ve bought the music or come along to the shows, it is much appreciated.

I’ve got shows coming up in, Blackpool, Croydon, Freiburg, London, Sheffield, and Zwickau to see out 2018.

Of special note is my end-of-year ‘secret’ gig at Dorothy Pax in Sheffield on 22nd Dec – this is only advertised here (50 places only), and tickets are only available via my shop.

Don’t miss out on Sieben-secret-squirrel-santa. Ah ha ha. Ha.

videos

Crumbs is now released. Buy it from my shop, my bandcamp, or online from a plethora of online stores. You can also order from UK distributors Plastic Head and their outlets, or Dark Vinyl, in Germany if easier for you.

I’ve now added a video page, including the OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEOS for tracks from Crumbs. The video page is here.

first video for Crumbs album-Sell Your Future!

What a joy it was, the Hometown Album Launch this week! Absolutely packed with a super-enthusiastic crowd. Fabulous, thank you.

Sell Your Future Official Music Video is now live:

Loving this video and its vibe. Made lovingly by Chris Ogden at Long Chalk Media, and a brilliant job he has done for sure. My heart-felt thanks to those who came along and danced in an underpass on a warm Saturday morning.

I’ll be giving the Sieben band another outing this weekend in Sheffield, on the Tramlines fringe. After that its Rebellion punk Festival in Blackpool, and the official launch of CRUMBS!

Roll up, roll! Enjoy it – and please like, share and recommend where you see fit. It all helps for a cottage-industry such as myself with Sieben, to get to the nirvana that is breaking-even 😉

Matt Howden – July 2018

Take part in my Sell Your Future video

VIDEO SHOOT: Sat 7th July 10am-12

We’re shooting a video for the song Sell Your Future, for my new CRUMBS album. It’ll be in the underpass, between Decathlon and St Mary’s church, near the United ground, in sunny Sheffield.

  • Dancing/ hanging about looking beautiful/dim required. Come dressed how you like, but here’s a suggested scale of greatness:
  • 1 as you are
  • 2 dressed a bit businessy
  • 3 a bit hipster
  • 4 a bit ravey (just come straight from where you’ve been)
  • 5 punk
  • 6 John Bull with plastic Union Jack Bowler /kiss me quick hat
  • 7 business-punk
  • 8 woman/man of the cloth (no nuns, please – oh, go on, then, some nuns)
  • 9 punk-business-man of the cloth
  • 10 as you were or are

Would be so lovely to have you on the video for this, so invite whomsoever you like along 🙂 Brexiters very welcome too, despite my strong views and heavy lyrics on this one – you can dance along ironically. And no-one’s being signed up to my political party. As yet. Just two hours of crumbs and silliness with the Sieben band. I may even get cakes for you all. Well, crumbs…

Matt Howden – 18th June 2018

A flurry of crumbs…

Thank you for your orders. I’ve packed them up, complete with a packet of actual crumbs (and a crumbs sticker, too) and they’re going out in the post – with my appreciation and gratitude. You people are the lifeblood of what I do, and make it possible for me to be continue doing it 🙂

CDs will be with you soon. I’m off to the post office with them in ten minutes time. If anyone is coming to Art Of Dark Days  festival in Cologne this weekend I will have some for sale then too:) And in Hannover, the week after. Actual proper release date is 3rd August, at Rebellion Festival in Blackpool.

Thank you again.

Matt

pre-order crumbs now

You lovely people on my mailing list can now pre-order crumbs before anyone else from my shop, should you wish 🙂

You want some?!

Hometown album launch streamed to your home!

I’m very excited about the ‘hometown’ album launch of my new album ‘crumbs’ for numerous reasons.

Firstly, I reckon its my best ever work. (Though I challenge you to find a band or artist that doesn’t say that as soon as they’ve finished their latest opus). Its certainly different, and a new direction for me. Now wasn’t the time to let everyone float off into an abstract world.

I’ve done much that’s different, on this album. The two bonus tracks on the CD release are versions with a full band. And the hometown launch will be my first ever UK gig with a full band. I’ll be looping for the first half, solo- something I firmly intend to keep doing as my live show. But the second half will be with a seven (of course) piece band, just to make this launch even more super-special. We’ll pretty much play the ‘crumbs’ album in full. I have to say, band rehearsals have been sodding amazing, and I can’t wait to unleash this on you all.

That I chose Friday the 13th July for the hometown album launch, and then find that the canker at the root of this album arrives on the same day…

Lastly, this event will be streamed direct into your home or device, should you so wish 🙂 More details on that soon, but we’ve already been setting up and plotting and planning for this for a while. It will be “High definition audio and video stream brought to you by Solastream” available here at www.matthowden.com – the audio will be mixed separately to the concert audio, to sound the very best it can. There will be multiple cameras, and indeed their own broadcasting satellite thingy. Sorry if I got too technical then;)

To be at the album launch in person, buy tickets here. It would be so lovely to have you there in person. Get tickets, now! This is a unique one-off event that will be magical, for sure.

To have the concert streamed to your home (and indeed I’ll be coming over to talk to you during the performance) stay tuned for news which I’ll be announcing here soon.

Here’s a snippet of the first track I’ll be playing on the night, the first track on the album. Written with potus in mind. Its called I Will Ignore The Apocalypse:

Crumbs album launch in Sheffield

You Want Some?

Possibly a slight departure from what you might expect of Sieben, perhaps? #The world is currently truly absurd, I’m just following suit. Only the second time I’ve ever played mouth trumpet on a record, and a first for a Sieben album. This is ‘You Want Some?’ featuring the vibrant and lovely Zowie Lumsdale for a second time singing on this album. She’s the one with the lady voice.

I’m presently finishing the 17th of 17 tracks for Crumbs From The Rich Man’s Table. The release is actually 15 tracks, with the CD having two bonus tracks- full band versions of two of the tracks. Possibly it’ll come out August time. Here’s a rough track list, though contents may settle in transit to mastering and manufacture:

01 Is It Dark Enough?

02 Here Is The News

03 Coldbloods

04 I Will Ignore The Apocalypse

05 Just Be A Lot Nicer

06 Sing Loud

07 Crumbs

08 Sleep Our Dream

09 Liberal Snowflake

10 Forge A Better World

11 Post-Brexit Dreams Of Albion

12 Sell Your Future

13 You Want Some?

14 We Will Be Alright

15 Can You Hear The Wind Coming?

BONUS CD TRACKS:

16 BAND VERSION: Here Is The News

17 BAND VERSION: Coldbloods

I’m currently researching printing on small plastic baggies, so I can give away actual ‘crumbs from a rich man’s table’ with each CD bought. The first 200 copies will get this. After that, its baggies with a little bit of dirt or fluff in for the rest of you – your own little bit of Britain from the Great British bring-and-buy-sale 😉
