The Matter of Britain is written and illustrated by Keith Howden, my father. Father and son combine to give you music and poetry!
The Matter of Britain, pulling at the Arthurian legends, and Witchwords, drawing on the story of The Pendle Witches, set in his native Lancashire. On the accompanying CD, he reads the poems and I have set them to music. The music is atmospheric, neo-classical, but certainly tinged with some modal folk influence, and definitely tied to the words and the power of the poems. The hardback and bound book is beautfully produced by PREcordings in Rome on quality paper and card. Front cover is embossed in gold. The CD mounts inside the back cover of the book, with matching artwork. 500 copies only. This is something truly special and unique.

2013 Barley Top is written by Keith Howden, Matt's father, who also reads his poems. Matt has set them to music. The music wraps round the words, pulses to the word’s pulse, its tensions parallel. At the end, musical themes come together in a symphonic finish. Barley Top is a quality hardback book, sewn sections, with silver foil blocked spine and front.
