My last gig of 2018 is a secret little affair, that is just word of mouth, and for those of you on my mailing list. I’ll play two sets, a set of my older material, and a set of Crumbs, in the beautiful Dorothy Pax bar, down at Victoria Quays, the canalside basin in the centre of Sheffield. Sat 22nd Dec. I’ll be handing out seasonal gifts, snacks and some music for all of you. For the 9th winter now the Neofolk/Dark folk /Industrial Music Festival DARKLAND FIRE is inviting all music lovers to Rakvere in December. Kate Arnold
Originally a classically trained violinist and vocalist, Kate also took up the hammered dulcimer in 1997. She performs both as a solo artist and with her ‘punk baroque’ project Fear of the Forest, combining live looping and electronic effects with folk, medieval/Renaissance and Middle Eastern influences. Kate has also worked with Lisa Knapp, Doudou Cissoko, Rose McDowall and Daemonia Nymphe, as well as having been a member of alternative rock bands Sergeant Buzfuz, and Paul Hawkins and the Awkward Silences.

Andy Whitehouse
Andy Whitehouse is recognised as a talented songwriter with a predilection for story and illuminating metaphor. Having fronted a series of much loved Sheffield bands including the Glorious, Honey Barbara and The Silver Darlings, he launched his first solo album, Almost Home in February 2017.

He has performed from Edinburgh to Brighton including providing support sets for Martin Stephenson, Mick Thomas, Curtis Eller and many more. He has performed on stage with Chris Wood and been likened to Nick Cave, Jacques Brel and Leonard Cohen due to the intensity of his performance and the romantic poetry of his songs, which are performed to a backdrop of “ethereal and atmospheric” (Rock ‘n’ Reel) guitar.

I’m delighted to be playing The Opera House stage at the wonderful Rebellion Punk Festival at The Winter Gardens in Blackpool. 3pm-3.35pm. Come lay down your coats as a marker for the later stuff that you actually want to see, and then get beguiled by me. (That’s the plan and I’m sticking to it, with full on beguiling.) The Red Lion, 109 Charles Street, S1 2ND Sheffield

Two great days of music beyond the Tramlines fringe. Saturday 1pm-8pm, hosted by myself, Sunday 1pm-8pm, hosted by Denzil Watson, (Phantom Power Records, Repomen). Event sound run by Red Tape Central (my students) on both days. This will be a warm and lovely gathering – pop in and see what’s going on- better still settle in and stay all day. You’ll see a great mix of bands and artists, established and up-and-coming.

I’ll be making an appearance with my Sieben band (there may be 8 of us onstage at some point) playing my new Crumbs album stuff. 4pm Saturday 21st July.

Also, look out for Threads at 1pm this Saturday – I saw their first gig on Wednesday, and it was the best first gig of a band I’ve ever seen. You should see them before they’re playing the Arena for an impossibly expensive ticket price, and you can’t go because you need a babysitter and the cat’s being sick again. I should disclaim that they are also the Sieben backing band, but that just shows what good taste I’ve got in picking them ?
