Modron start loop

The start loop for Modron. I like to get beats nice and clear, and the peripheral things (like the voices) more stereo and minimal, leaving space for the multiple layers that I add when playing live.

For the technical amongst you, this is a 12 bar loop, some subtle variations on what is melodically a 6 bar loop times 2. The strums and the bass (when I add it in) work on a 2 bar cycle, over the top, repeating 3 times for each cycle. On my index cards I write:

12/2/6/2/6/6/ – loops 1-6 and their relative length in bars.

The first loop is 12 bars and is in bold so I know it is this pre-set ‘start loop’. Bass, additional chants and new strums go on the 2nd loop, 2 bars long. And the chorus string melody of Modron gets added to Loop 3, 6 bars long. And so on until the song is full and my brain is empty.

I’m beginning to wonder whether my mental faculties will allow me to keep working like this for much longer. I mean, I can barely remember where I put my socks most of the time…
